Photographic Restoration of Queens Anne's State Bed

The above image (click for a larger version) is the result of some detailed photographic restoration work to bring back to life the patterned velvet fabric from Queen Anne's State Bed. The bed dates from 1714 and this section of fabric is only one of the smallest parts of the bed.

The valance was accurately photographed in a number of sections which were then pieced together to form a fully representative high resolution image. Photographs were also taken of the undamaged rear side of a separate section of patterned fabric and this aided the digital restoration of the damaged section.

Each part of the pattern was slightly different, the original fabric differs slightly in each repeat and years of being hung vertically has distorted any useful repeats.

The final restored image will be printed life size on to the fine mesh used by the conservators to support both the fragile original fabric and their physical restoration work.

This cutting edge approach will be used to conserve & restore the fabric over the whole of the bed ready for it's display in 2013.

Glastonbury & All Change

It's all change at the moment! This blog's name has changed to tie in with my main project: Styles Studio which is also in the process of being updated.

You can now follow Styles Studio on Facebook here and Twitter here.

The Daily Photo project is still live and I have a package of daily photos ready to upload. If the technology works, the daily photo project will be automatically beamed to the Facebook & Twitter pages.

In the mean time, I offer some recent favourites from Glastonbury Festival 2010 ranging from Riz MC performing MICroscope, backstage performers preparing for a chinese dragon performance, litter pickers at dawn on the Other Stage and a DJ taking a break in Shangri La.

The Skeena train

While strolling back to the Hostel from the pub, I was lucky enough to stumble upon our home for the next two days - the Skeena - refueling in the glistening evening light.

The Inside Passage

Ain't free wifi brilliant! I thought I'd take this opportunity to upload a panoramic photo taken from the back of the ferry early this morning while travelling the Inside Passage from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert.

It was clear & cold for the evening and cloud had formed overnight which hung low over the water in the morning. Once the sun was able to burn the cloud off a bit it started to light up the wilderness view nicely.

Bert Racoon!

Spotted living wild in Stanley Park, Vancouver. He said he misses Evergreen Forest but isn't too fussed about Cyril Sneer.

A few fellow photographers and I from http://www.photoportal.org.uk have teamed up to cheer each other on through this project which will require quite a bit of discipline and motivation.

Commencing from the 1st of May, or thereabouts, I will be somewhere in the Canadian Rockies at the time!

Home Park Deer

Haven't taken many photos lately, but did get to go and try out the long lens with some photos of the wildlife in Home Park in the recent snow.
